Land Use
Land use can be defined as the human modifications made to the natural environment. Effects of land use include urban sprawl, deforestation, and soil erosion (just to name a few).

Smart Growth, also referred to as new urbanism, is an urban planning and transportation theory that concentrates growth in the city to avoid urban sprawl.
