Gardening
Gardening is the practice of growing plants from all different types of variations. Some enjoy a flower garden while others prefer to grow their own fruits and vegetables. Either way, gardening is a great way to preserve the environment and enjoy some outdoor activity.
Pesticides are any substances of mixtures intended for preventing, destroying and/or repelling any pests or insects. A pesticide can be a chemical or biological substance. For some great websites on pesticides please visit:

The distinction between Native and Non-native plant species in Ontario may not always be very clear. Non-native plant species are usually referred to as "Alien" or "invasive species". It is important to be educated about our native plant species in order to maintain our ecosystems.
Ontario Trees and Shrubs has a great website with links and lists of plant species native to Ontario. If you are interested in learning more please click here.
If you are interested in gardening with native plant species please click here to read the Urban Forestry fact sheet on "How to Select and Buy Native Plants".
