Green Businesses
HEN welcomes the opportunity to connect the public with businesses that tread lightly on the environment. All businesses are reviewed by a committee before being included on the HEN website. We group businesses into the following categories:
Green Products: a business which substantially sells products which are one or more of:
- organically grown
- fair trade
- locally produced
- socially responsible
- toxin-free alternatives
- energy or water conservation aids
Green Services: a business whose primary activity is one of the 3Rs:
- Reduce (e.g. organic lawn care, conservation consultants)
- Reuse (e.g. second-hand shops, repair shops, rental outlets)
- Recycle
Green Business Practices: a business which puts a high priority on:
- energy conservation
- water conservation
- packaging reduction
- pollution prevention
- aggressive recycling
- environmentally-friendly and/or socially responsible purchasing decisions
