BurlingtonGreen is pleased to announce that we will be hosting a free to the public all candidates event on Tuesday, September 28 at 7:30 pm (doors open 7:00 pm) at Mainway Recreational Centre located at 4015 Mainway, Burlington.

TVCogeco has signed on with us as a supporting partner and will be filming the event.  Bullfrog Power has also kindly agreed to supply the clean, green energy for the event to help us in our efforts to host a low impact event.  Please see the attached poster and forward with this invitation to your membership.

With city wide interest in the fall election stronger than it has ever been, we believe this to be a valuable and important opportunity to support citizen engagement hosted by a citizen based organization.

While our organization’s objectives are environment focused, this event will not be but instead open for awareness and participation on a multitude of topics that are important to the people of Burlington.

The meeting will feature a unique format that will allow citizen interaction with every Ward Councillor, School Board Trustee, and Mayoralty candidate in attendance. Gary Carr who will be acclaimed as Regional Chair will also be available.

The tentative event format is as follows:

·        7:00 to 8:00 PM : Doors open. Each candidate will be available at his/her designated table, available for conversation with members of the public.  At the same time, attendees will be provided with the opportunity to submit questions for Mayoralty candidates for the second part of the evening.

·       8:00 to 9:30 PM: Opening remarks by Moderator. A few words from Regional Chair Gary Carr followed by a Question /Answer session with all Mayoralty candidates.  Each attending Mayoral candidate will present a brief introductory speech (two minutes) and then will answer questions drawn at random from the public questions submitted (one minute per candidate per question).  Moderator assistants will review submitted questions to avoid duplication of topic questions.

·         9:30 PM:  Closing comments by Moderator. Public will also be invited to submit their feedback about the event along with any outstanding questions and these will be passed along to candidates .

In advance of this event BurlingtonGreen will forward to all mayor and councillorcandidates our Election 2010 BurlingtonGreen Questionnaire. Each candidate will have the opportunity to submit written responses to a series of priority environment focused questions which we willpost on the BurlingtonGreen website www.burlingtongreen.org, distribute to local media and also display at the September 28 All Candidates Event for public awareness.
