Environment & Diversity

The Halton Environmental Network is excited to be the recipient of an Environment & Diversity Mini-Grant from the Sustainability Network. Grants totalling $25,400 were awarded to six organizations across Ontario to assist them in becoming more diverse and inclusive organizations.

HEN is receiving $5,000 to increase the effectiveness of its outreach by connecting with the various immigrant communities in Halton. In making these connections and determining the environmental mindsets and needs of these communities, links can be made with other environmental organizations to provide mutually-beneficial services and establish ongoing relationships.

Objectives of the program include:

  • Assisting communities in finding environmental activities and information of interest to them,
  • Increasing awareness of environmental resources and services,
  • Sharing best environmental practices,
  • Linking and connecting communities involved in greening projects,
  • Identifying needs and challenges in greening communities,
  • Fostering inclusive green communication,
  • Promoting participation in green programs and activities, and
  • Creating a database of the environmental network.

Partners on this project include the Halton Multicultural Council, The Centre for Skills Development and Training, and FutureWatch Environment & Development Education Partners.
