The Halton Region Health Department has released two discussion papers and two 1-minute videos that may be of interest to you.

"Creating Walkable and Transit-Supportive Communities in Halton" (MO-09-09 and Attachment). This discussion paper identifies the parameters or criteria that could/should be captured in the long-term land use planning process to encourage walkable and transit supportive communities. It is our hope that many of the parameters in this paper will be captured as policies to our Regional Official Plan and/or in Guidelines referenced by Official Plan. "Protecting Health: Air Quality and Land Use Compatibility" (MO-10-09 and Attachment). This discussion paper identifies the parameters or criteria that could/should be captured in the long-term land use planning process to protect sensitive receptors from localized air quality impacts that can be associated with industrial facilities and/or traffic corridors. It is our intention to develop a Halton-specific Guideline re: incompatible land uses and air quality that is referenced by our Official Plan. Link to Discussion Paper: http://www.halton.ca

"Halton's Air Quality and Climate Change Health Promotion Program – Update" (MO-11-09). Associated with this report are two 1-minute videos on energy use at home and on the road intended to draw people into our website for more information on air quality and climate change.
