Green Businesses
HEN welcomes the opportunity to connect the public with businesses that tread lightly on the environment. All businesses are reviewed by a committee before being included on the HEN website. Businesses are grouped into the following categories:
Sustainable Purchasing: businesses which provide products to assist people with the 3Rs (reducing, reusing, recycling), including:
- rental shops
- second-hand shops
- refurbished or repurposed goods
- waste management aids
- energy or water conservation aids
or businesses which sell products which are one or more of:
- organically grown
- fair trade
- locally produced
- socially responsible
- toxin-free alternatives
Environmental Services: businesses which provide services (rather than products) which:
- are environmental consulting services
- promote the 3Rs
Regardless of the products and services provided, a business may be included in one of the above categories if it puts a high priority on Green Business Practices, including:
- energy conservation
- water conservation
- packaging reduction
- pollution prevention
- aggressive waste management
- environmentally-friendly and/or socially responsible purchasing decisions
